Terms of Use

What you need to know if you sign a cause, boost it, make a contribution or simply visit Causfy. If you create causes, what applies to you is the Terms for Creators.

Last updated:

In short

Causfy is a platform where a person or organisation publishes a cause and other people support it. There are signature causes, which are supported by signing, and fundraising causes, which are supported with money. You can give visibility to any of them with a boost.

To sign, boost or contribute you do not need an account. You must be at least 16 years old (18 if the cause requires verifying your identity with a document and a selfie); to pay, you must be of legal age.

Each signature generates a certificate. You receive it and so does the creator of the cause, who is the one who gathers the signatures and is answerable for your data. Causfy stores them encrypted in such a way that it cannot read them on its own, and for that reason it cannot sell or transfer them either.

Publicly, only the initial of your name followed by four asterisks appears. You can delete your signature from the link in your confirmation email.

The fingerprint of each certificate is recorded on a public blockchain. It contains no personal data and cannot be erased.

Boosts may be refunded for fourteen days, for the part not used. Contributions go to the cause, and Causfy charges no commission on them.

Causfy is not answerable for the content of causes and does not guarantee that they achieve anything. If you see something that should not be there, let us know.

These Terms are governed by Spanish law. The Spanish version is the one that prevails.

Who they apply to

1.1. To you, if you sign a Cause, boost it, make a Contribution or visit the Platform. You accept them by using it; if you do not agree with them, do not use it.

1.2. If you create causes, the Terms for Creators also apply to you, which you accept when opening your Account. These Terms govern your relationship with Causfy; the relationship with whoever creates a Cause is yours with that person or organisation.

1.3. Who provides the service. “Causfy”, “the Platform” and “we” refer to CAUSFY GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, S.L., a Spanish company whose details are set out at the end of this document.

1.4. Documents that complete these Terms. The Privacy Policy, the Cookie Policy and the Platform Rules form part of them, and prevail in their subject matter.

1.5. Platforms under another brand. Causfy also provides its technology to other companies, which offer it under their own brand and domain. Those platforms are governed by each company’s terms, and that company is the one answerable to its users.

Definitions

These words, with an initial capital, have the meaning indicated.

2.2. Support. Expression of backing for a Cause, in the form of a Signature or a Contribution.

2.3. Cause. Initiative published on the Platform by a Creator to gather Support for a specific objective.

2.4. Certificate. Document generated with each confirmed Signature that attests the Support.

2.5. Creator. Person or organisation that publishes and manages a Cause from their Account.

2.6. Account. Registration required by whoever creates Causes. To sign, boost or contribute it is not needed.

2.7. Addressee. Person, entity or body to whom what a Cause asks for is addressed.

2.8. Signature. Support for a Cause by which you add your backing to what it asks for.

2.9. Boost. Payment by which you contract from Causfy a visibility service for a Cause.

2.10. Platform. The websites and applications through which the Services are provided, on the domains causfy.com and causfy.app.

2.12. User. Any person who accesses or uses the Platform, with or without an Account.

What Causfy is and what it is not

3.1. What the Platform does. It makes it possible to publish Causes and gather Support for them. There are two types of Cause: signature causes, which gather Signatures, and fundraising causes, which gather Contributions. The Creator decides the type when creating it. Causfy operates in many countries, and what can be done in each depends on its legislation and on the payment providers available.

3.2. Causfy is an intermediary. It is not a party to the relationship between the Creator, those who support their Cause and the Addressee.

3.3. Causfy does not endorse Causes. Causfy may verify the identity of whoever publishes a Cause, and when it has done so the Cause carries the “verified” badge. That badge attests who publishes it, not what it says: that a Cause is published does not mean that Causfy shares it or guarantees that what it states is true. The Creator is answerable for its content.

3.4. Causfy does not guarantee results. We do not guarantee that a Cause will reach a given number of Supports, that its Addressee will respond or that it will produce any effect.

3.5. It is not advice. Nothing in the Services is legal, tax, medical or financial advice.

3.6. Payments. Causfy is not a payment institution and never holds the money of Contributions: it goes directly to whoever receives it. Payments are executed by independent payment service providers, under their own terms.

3.7. Changes to the service. We may modify, add or withdraw features. If a change affects you substantially, we will communicate it with at least thirty calendar days’ notice.

Signing a cause

Signing on Causfy is not pressing a button. Each signature is confirmed, generates a certificate and leaves a fingerprint that anyone can check.

4.1. Who can sign. Anyone aged at least 16, with no need for an Account, who declares this when signing. To sign with verified identity you must be of legal age, and this is checked with your document. To sign with certified identity it is enough to hold a valid credential issued in your name. When signing you give your name and your email, and confirm the email with a one-time code.

4.2. Your consent. When signing you expressly accept, by ticking a box, that the Creator of the Cause processes your data to support that Cause, even though your signature may reveal an opinion. The box is not pre-ticked, and without ticking it you cannot sign. Next to it you are told who is answerable for your data and what happens to it.

4.3. The Certificate. Each confirmed Signature generates a Certificate containing your name and your email; the text of the petition; the date and time; the technical data of the signature, which are detailed in the Privacy Policy: the country you signed from, whether the connection went through a VPN, a proxy or Tor, and the browser and the system; the method by which you identified yourself and, where there is one, the authority that did so; and the record of the verification steps. It is sealed with Causfy’s company certificate and with a qualified timestamp.

4.4. Who receives the Certificate. You, by email when signing, and the Creator of the Cause, who is the one who gathers the signatures and is answerable for the processing of your data in accordance with the Privacy Policy. Causfy stores it encrypted in such a way that it cannot read it on its own.

4.5. The three signature levels. The Creator chooses the level their Cause requires, and you are told before signing. Basic signature: it is confirmed that you control the email you sign with; the name is declared by you and is not checked. Verified identity: only for those aged 18 or over. At the moment of signing, and with your explicit consent, Causfy checks your identity with your identity document and a selfie, on a machine of its own with no internet connection. It does not keep the images or any template of your face, and if you sign again at this level you repeat it. Certified identity: you identify yourself through an official channel of your country, such as your digital identity wallet, a digital certificate or your identity card with chip, without leaving Causfy. In all cases the Certificate states the method used and, where there is one, the authority that identified you.

4.6. What the Certificate proves and what value it has. At all levels it attests that the Signature took place, when, and that the document has not been altered since. It does not attest that what the Cause says is true. Its legal value depends on your country and on the method by which you identified yourself. Through an official channel, the signature may reach the highest level recognised by the law of your country: in the European Union, the qualified signature, which has the same value as a handwritten signature, with the identity card with chip or with a digital identity wallet backed by a qualified provider. With verified identity, the signature is designed to meet the requirements of an advanced electronic signature where the law recognises that category; its classification, in the event of a dispute, is for the judge or authority assessing it to determine. With a basic signature, it counts as proof that whoever signed controlled that email and of when they signed; it does not attest the identity of the signer. In no case can it be denied legal effect solely because it is electronic.

What is visible about your signature and how to delete it

5.1. Causes are public. The content of a Cause can be seen by any visitor and may appear in search engines. When a Cause is finished it remains published, with its counter, but it can no longer be signed or contributed to.

5.2. What is visible about you. In the cause’s list of recent signatures only the initial of your name followed by four asterisks (for example, “J****”) and how long ago you signed appear. Nothing else. The public verification page of a Certificate only confirms that it exists, that it has not been altered and its date.

5.3. Deleting your Signature. You can do so at any time with the link in your confirmation email. The Certificate and the record of the Signature are erased, and it stops counting. If the Creator had already downloaded your Certificate, they are obliged to erase their copy, and Causfy informs them.

5.4. What cannot be erased. The fingerprint of your Certificate recorded on the blockchain, which contains no personal data (see section 8).

5.5. Cause updates. If you tick the box, which is optional, you will receive by email the updates the Creator publishes. In order to send them to you, your email is stored encrypted in the same way as the Certificate: Causfy cannot read it. When the Creator sends an update from the Platform, the system decrypts the addresses only for an instant, in memory, sends the emails and discards them; the Creator never sees them. You can unsubscribe from any of those updates or from the link in your confirmation email; when you do, your encrypted email is erased.

Boosting a cause

6.1. What a Boost is. A visibility service for a Cause that Causfy provides from the moment it is contracted: the Cause moves to a featured position on the portal, where it is shown with the label “Promoted”. Causfy decides with editorial freedom which causes it publishes on its own social networks, whether they have received Boosts or not; a Boost does not entitle you to any specific publication.

6.2. How it is paid. By card or with cryptocurrencies. If you pay with cryptocurrencies, you do so from your own wallet, which you connect at the moment of payment, in any of the cryptocurrencies admitted: the operation is a transaction on a public network, and Causfy converts it into a stablecoin through decentralised protocols. Your wallet address and the transaction are public on that network and are recorded permanently. The price is shown before paying with the taxes applicable according to your country, which the payment system calculates at that moment, and appears on the receipt you receive.

6.3. If you change your mind. When paying, you ask for the Boost to begin immediately. If you withdraw within 14 days and before it ends, we refund you the part proportional to the time that remained to be provided, within a maximum of 14 days, by the same means of payment. Once the Boost is complete, it is no longer possible to withdraw. You can request it through the contact form or with the model withdrawal form. If you paid with cryptocurrencies, we refund you, to the same wallet and in the stablecoin in which your payment was settled, the euro equivalent of the part that remained to be provided; the network fees of the refund are borne by Causfy.

See the model withdrawal form

6.4. What the Creator sees. The Creator sees how many Boosts their Cause has received, never the amounts or who paid for them.

6.5. Boosting is not signing. A Boost does not count as a Signature or as a Contribution to the Cause: it is a service you contract from Causfy.

6.6. You must be of legal age to pay for a Boost.

Contributing money to a fundraising cause

7.1. When it is possible. In fundraising Causes, which are those that gather money for a purpose: a person, a family, a project or an organisation. You must be of legal age.

7.2. Where the money goes. To the Cause. Causfy charges no commission on the amount gathered; if this were to change, notice would be given thirty calendar days in advance. Whoever receives the money is answerable for applying it to the declared purpose and for their tax obligations.

7.3. How it is paid. By card, bank transfer or direct debit and with cryptocurrencies, by the means enabled at any given time. Payment service providers apply their own fees, which Causfy does not receive.

7.4. The money never passes through Causfy. Contributions go directly to whoever receives them: to their collection account with the payment provider, to their bank account or to their own cryptocurrency wallet. Causfy has no access to that money, does not hold it, cannot withhold it and cannot reverse any operation.

7.5. If there is fraud. If a Cause is removed for fraud or for a serious breach of the Terms for Creators, Causfy removes it, cancels the Account of whoever created it, informs the payment providers and, where appropriate, the authorities. What Causfy cannot do is refund your money, because it never had it: the refund has to be requested from whoever received it or, if you paid by card, from your bank or the card issuer. Bank transfers and cryptocurrency payments cannot be reversed.

7.6. What Causfy does so that you are not deceived, and what it cannot do. Before publication, every fundraising Cause is reviewed, with automated means and human review. Whoever receives the money must have verified their identity, and in the case of an organisation, also that of the organisation; the Cause and the profile of whoever publishes it show this with the “verified” badge. If there are indications of fraud, Causfy removes the Cause, cancels the Account and informs the payment providers and the authorities. What Causfy cannot guarantee is that the Cause will reach its goal or that the money will be used as announced: whoever receives it, whose identity we know, is answerable for that. If you suspect fraud, let us know (section 9).

7.7. Contributions to Causfy. If you make a voluntary contribution to the platform itself, it is received by CAUSFY GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, S.L. to maintain and develop Causfy. It does not go to any cause, does not entitle you to any service and, as Causfy is a commercial company, it is not tax-deductible.

The fingerprint on the blockchain

8.1. What is recorded. A fingerprint (a hash) is calculated for each Certificate and that fingerprint is written to a public blockchain.

8.2. What it contains. A figure calculated from the complete Certificate (its hash), with no other data. From it the Certificate cannot be reconstructed, nor can it be known which cause it belongs to. Only whoever holds a copy of the Certificate (you, the Creator and, if it is delivered to them, the Addressee) can check that it corresponds to that record.

8.3. It cannot be erased. Once recorded, the fingerprint cannot be removed, neither by Causfy nor by anyone.

8.4. What it is for. It makes it possible to check that a Certificate existed on a date and that it has not been altered since, without having to trust Causfy.

8.5. Compatibility with your rights. The record is permanent. When you delete your signature, Causfy erases the Certificate and any link between your signature and its record, and the Creator is obliged to erase their copy. From then on, the record can only be related to you through the copies legitimately kept by those who already had them; on its own it reveals no data about you.

Commenting, taking part in a live stream and reporting content

9.1. Comments and chat. If you comment on a Cause or take part in the chat of a live stream, the Platform Rules apply: nothing illegal, no hatred, harassment, deception or other people’s personal data. Comments are moderated by Causfy. The chat of a live stream is moderated by the Creator who streams, who may remove messages and expel whoever breaches the rules; Causfy does not access the content of the live stream or intervene in it in real time, although it may act afterwards on the Cause or the Account if it receives a notice.

9.2. You may not use the Platform to automate access, extract data on a mass scale, alter its operation or circumvent its security measures.

9.3. Reporting content. If you see a Cause, a comment or a message that seems to you unlawful or contrary to the Rules, you have two ways. The quick one is the report button on the Cause itself: it is anonymous, it serves for us to look at it, but we will not be able to reply to you. The formal one is the contact form, choosing the reason “Report content”: you state where it is, what the problem is and why, and declare that you are reporting in good faith; we confirm receipt and communicate the decision to you. We deal with it within 24 to 48 working hours; if additional checks are needed, we will tell you. You can also write to the address below.

  • Content, requests and complaints:

9.4. If a measure affects you. If Causfy removes a comment of yours, you may appeal within the following six months, which is the period the law sets for a platform’s decisions on content. The appeal is examined by a person other than the one who made the decision and resolved, with its reason, within a maximum of fifteen calendar days. Expulsion from the chat of a live stream is decided by the Creator who streams, not by Causfy, and is not appealed before us.

Liability and third-party rights

10.1. Availability. The Services are provided as available. We do not guarantee that there will be no interruptions or errors.

10.2. What Causfy is not answerable for. The content of Causes, what their Creators do, the destination of the funds gathered, the relationships between Users or with Addressees, or third-party services.

10.3. Limits. Nothing in this section excludes liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or liability that the law does not allow to be excluded, or affects your rights as a consumer.

10.4. Third-party services. The Platform may link to external sites and use external providers, which are governed by their owners’ terms.

10.5. Causfy’s rights. The Causfy trademark, its distinctive signs, the software and the design of the Platform belong to Causfy or are used under licence. They may not be reproduced, transformed, distributed or used commercially without written authorisation.

10.6. If content infringes your rights. You may report it in accordance with section 9, identifying the content and the right affected.

Changes, governing law and contact

11.1. Changes to these Terms. We may modify them. Substantial changes are communicated with at least thirty calendar days’ notice; minor ones are published with the updated date.

11.2. Governing law. These Terms are governed by Spanish law.

11.3. Jurisdiction. The courts and tribunals of Madrid have jurisdiction, with waiver of any other forum. If you are a consumer, the law allows you to bring proceedings before the courts of your place of residence, and this clause does not take that away from you.

11.4. Language. The Spanish version is the original. The others are courtesy translations and, if they do not match, the Spanish one prevails.

11.5. Who we are and how to contact us. For any matter, use the contact form at causfy.com, which directs it to the right person. For notices about content, requests and complaints you can also write to the address below, which is Causfy’s single point of contact, for authorities and for users, in matters of digital services.
